PTTD – Ankle Brace: Posterior Tibial Tendon Dysfunction (PTTD)

  • Stage I: The tendon is injured but otherwise intact.
  • Stage II: The tendon is torn (ruptured) or not working properly. The foot is deformed.
  • Stage III: The foot is significantly deformed. There are degenerative changes to the cartilage in the back of the foot.
  • Stage IV: There are degenerative changes to the ankle joint.

 
Challenges / Symptoms:
– Medial arch collapse also called as Adult acquired flat feet
– Swelling & Inflammation possibility
– Weakening of the Tendon and failure of ligaments around
– Repetitive strain to the Tibialis Posterior tendon as it works too hard
– Pain in the ankle due to joint impingement from the progressive collapsing foot deformity
– Tingling and numbness due to nerve irritation on the medial aspect of the foot as the foot collapses
– Plantar flexor / inversion

– Strengthen arch by pulling it up medially
– Ensure that further damage to foot is stopped

How to use 
– Offers multiple control features a) Shaped Metal stabilizers b) Dual directional straps c) BOA for controlled release support
– Pop up the BOA mechanism, and it loosens up to fit the foot in
– After the foot is in, push in the BOA to lock and mildly turn clock wise (do not tighten it yet)
– Use the stretch straps and pull up the medial strap while maintaining neutral position for the lateral strap
– Get the straps behind the ankle and secure them in place with Velcro
– Now after getting the arch in desired place, tighten it by turning the BOA in clock wise direction to secure the ankle joint
